India signs USD450 million Brahmos missile deal with Indonesia: Report

India has signed a major agreement to export Brahmos missiles worth around USD 450 million (₹3,800 crore) to Indonesia. This will boost India’s standing as a rising exporter of defence equipment worldwide, according to reports.
Developed by BrahMos Aerospace, the Brahmos missile is a supersonic cruise that will boost Indonesia’s military capabilities and bolster defense ties between the two nations. It has the potential of striking targets up to 290 km, with a more advanced version having a range of up to 500 km.
This development comes as Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was a special guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The Indonesian president also visited the BrahMos Aerospace headquarters in India after the celebrations in the presence of a high-level delegation, including Indonesian Navy Chief Admiral Muhammad Ali. The delegation explored the advanced capabilities of the Brahmos missile system and was briefed on its specifications, including its speed, range, and versatility.
Taking to social media, BrahMos Aerospace shared details of the visit, emphasizing the discussions to enhance bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries.
India made its first international sale of Brahmos missiles to the Philippines in January 2022 worth around $375 million. The missile deliveries are already underway, with more expected soon.
During Subianto’s Republic Day visit, PM Modi also discussed potential ways to strengthen ties in the Indo-Pacific region. “To increase cooperation in the defense sector, we have agreed to work together in defence manufacturing and supply chains,” the Indian PM said.
