India Procures S-400 Systems In Time To Secure LAC Against Chinese Onslaught

India – Indian investment in two Russian S-400 defense systems will become operational in early 2022 as two trained Russian teams are ready to put them into commission. The S-400 Truimf is one of the most advanced anti-missile systems which can bring down enemy fighter jets, UAVs, and incoming missiles at a distance of up to 400 kilometers.

The deployment gives India an edge over China, which is using similar technology across Ladakh and Arunachal LAC. India will be deploying the same near the country’s western border, from where it can intercept threats from both China and Pakistan. Russia will complete the delivery of the first S-400 squadron by the end of the year, out of the five squadrons for which a Rs 35,000-crore contract was signed in 2018.

Delivery starts in December, ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India. Political analysts believe that India could procure these advanced tactical devices at such short notice only because of a close trade relationship that Modi has nurtured with Putin.

You could attribute their closeness to the fact that Russia is making the effort to come all way to India for a second time in the year on December 06. With this timely procurement, Modi has given the much-needed impetus to the Indian forced deployed at the LAC.

Putin has only held a virtual summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in June this year and will not travel to Beijing despite the two countries having an annual summit format online with India. Despite raging Covid conditions, Russia allowed Indian S-400 teams to train and opened manufacturing facilities shut down during the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the past two years.
