India Is Going To Rename ‘Rajpath’ As ‘Kartavya Path’
Rajpath is the highlight of the Republic Day parade every year. It was called Kingsway during British rule. Now it’s going to be renamed as ‘Kartavya Path’.
The famous Rajpath between Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate is about to be renamed Kartavya Path (Path of Duty), and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is expected to examine the proposal at its meeting on Wednesday.
NDMC Vice Chairperson and BJP leader Satish Upadhyay said,
“We are convening a special meeting on September 7 to discuss and rename the Central Vista and Rajpath stretch as Kartavya Path.
The proposal is yet to come but the meeting has been called. All members and officials concerned will participate in the meeting.”
According to sources, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is putting up the plan. Later this week, the renovated Central Vista Avenue is anticipated to open.
It is a component of the broader Central Vista project, which also includes the construction of a new triangular Parliament Building, the Central Secretariat, and numerous other government buildings.
Rajpath, formerly known as Kingsway when Britain was in power, is the highlight of the Republic Day parade every January 26.
