I want Rishabh Pant to recover so that I can go and slap him: Kapil Dev
Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is currently on the road to recovery after enduring a horrific accident last December when his car crashed into a divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. The 25-year-old suffered a number of injuries, enough to sideline him from cricket for at least a year.
He has torn three major ligaments in his knee, two of which have already been reconstructed while surgery on the third one can be expected after six weeks.
Provided the player is discharged on time thereafter and starts his rehabilitation, it will take him at least another six months to recover, all but ruling him out of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia series, World Cup, and most likely the entire year.
Pant’s absence will be felt a lot more in test matches, where the young player has already reached legendary status.
Former India World Cup-winning captain and cricket legend Kapil Dev has showered some tough fatherly love on Pant. He recently expressed his unhappiness with the crash and said his absence has caused a disbalance in the team.

Stating that he loves Pant, Dev mentioned he wants to slap him as soon as he recovers from the injuries. “I love him, but I am also angry at him. Why do such youngsters of today’s times make such mistakes?”
Pant posted an Instagram story on Tuesday to give his fans a glimpse of his road to recovery.
Earlier, the player also gave an update on his surgery. Expressing gratitude for all the “kind words, support and positive energy during this difficult time,” he wrote “looking forward to seeing you all on the field.”
