ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Format and Venue Remain Undecided
With 74 days left before the event begins, the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy hangs by a thread. As the ICC tries to intervene and mediate between the BCCI and the PCB, the cricketing teams from across the world are getting restless with growing anxiety. It has stopped some of the very critical talks; it’s put the broadcasters, teams, and fans in a wait-and-see situation with regard to the further format of the tournament as well as its hosting.
The current proposal is a hybrid tournament, India may play its games in Dubai or Sri Lanka, which is yet to be approved fully. The situation could be more favorable for the Pakistan Cricket Board, the ICC has given the Pakistan Cricket Board a final warning about participation. Insiders think that stakeholders can be pressured to adopt the T20 format because people feel it has more marketing glamour and possible commercial success as compared to the conventional ODI format.
The broadcasting channels have held on tight to the side of BCCI as Indian matches are played in most of the international arena. The added leverage creates more complications as the ICC has been unable to provide the tournament calendar within the 90-day ultimatum they gave out.
