Honouring the Living-Giving Farmers on “National Farmers’ Day”
Every year on December 23, the whole nation of India celebrates “National Farmers’ Day” to uphold the exalted contributions of farmers and the farmer’s leader, the 5th Prime Minister of India Choudhary Charan Singh who has drafted many policies and schemes for the progress of agriculture in India. Because agriculture is the “backbone of India”.
Today, is the 122nd birth anniversary of Choudhary Charan Singh the former Prime Minister, freedom fighter who has been honoured by the Indian Government in 2024 by presenting him the highest civilian award “Bharat Ratna”. ‘Holdings Act of 1953 and the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari’ consolidation and ‘Land Reforms Act of 1952’ are the notable policies laid by former PM Choudhary with a vision for future agriculture and farmers.
Schemes that aids farmers by the present Indian government are,
- PM-KISAN: Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi
- PMFBY: Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana
- PM-KMY: Pradhan Mantri Kisan Mandhan Yojana
According to the given information by the PIB, the total foodgrain production of the Indian farmers has increased upto 332.2 million Tonnes from 2023-2024. In the previous fiscal year, 2022-2023 it was 329.7 million tonnes. In the report the government has praised the ‘resilience and unwavering dedication’.
This auspicious day also reminds the fundamental element that is the importantance of ensuring these highly spirited, hard working and innovative “Annadatas” are benefited with all the schemes for their better livelihoods and unobstructed food production.
