Highlights of the Roundtable Conference on “Sustainable Waste Management” in IIM Shillong

On Wednesday, NE-CCIE (Northeast Centre for Community Impact and Engagement) organised a roundtable discussion event in IIM Shillong which was focused on “Sustainable Waste Management”. This discussion underscored the innovative approaches and notions that fosters the community involvement and policy support to tackle the hurdles and challenges in the waste management due to the fast growing urbanization and population growth.
Highlights of the Roundtable
- Key stakeholders, representatives from the Meghalaya Institute of Governance, Bethany Society, OCU, and Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Nongthymmai Pyllun took part in the event
- Prof.D.P.Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong welcomed everyone who have participated in the event and stressed about the importance of collaboration for the waste management between academic institutions, government bodies, and the local communities
- The noteworthy practices embraced by the institution, innovative measures to deduct waste and promote sustainability on campus has been pointed by Col.Dinesh Adhikari, CAO of IIM Shillong
- Dr.Teidorlang Lyngdoh, Chair of NE-CCIE spoke regarding the deliberations and purposeful contributions from all the participants
- Waste segregation, community-targeted awareness, campaigns, introducing the labeled bins for organic and non-organic waste, water ATM for clean drinking water, and stewardship of rivers are the other key features discussed on the roundtable discussions
It ended with the mutual agreement of all the participants along with an agreement of shared commitment to enhance the environment.
