Google Rolls Out AR-Powered Features In Google Maps

Google has introduced some latest AR-powered features on its platform Google Maps. Additionally, Google updates its Search and Shopping offerings with new features.

Numerous new additions to Google’s Maps, Search, and Shopping apps have been made public. 

With the search with Live View function, the internet giant is introducing a new augmented reality (AR) tool to Google Maps.

Users will be able to explore pertinent information using their mobile camera while out and about, with landmarks, street names, eateries, ATMs, and hotels being displayed.

According to a blog post by Google, the feature was unveiled in September. The company announced that “starting next week, this visual search experience will start rolling out on Android and iOS in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo.”

Electric vehicle owners will be able to filter the information on EV charging stations in Google Maps. 

The fast charge filter allows users to look for stations with 50kW or higher chargers that are compatible with EV plugs. 

The update is accessible on Android and iOS devices in nations with EV charging stations, claims the tech giant.

To make it easier for users to determine whether a location is wheelchair accessible, the firm is expanding its accessible locations feature globally. Since 2020, the feature has been accessible in the US, UK, Australia, and Japan.

Users must enable the ‘accessible places’ options in the app to check whether a location provides parking, seating, and restrooms that are accessible. 

Users must locate the business profile they want to change and add accessibility information using the accessibility features.

Google has also improved its search to enable customers to locate their preferred dish in a restaurant close by. Users of the Google App for Android or iOS will be able to find meals using a new multi-search function that lets them use photos taken with the Lens app. 

Google will release an update to its Lens AR Translate capabilities later this year that will allow users to translate text on complex backgrounds, according to sources.

With a new AR feature that allows users to visualize various products, the tech giant is enhancing the shopping experience. 

148 models are reportedly included in Google’s new photo library, representing a wide range of skin tones, ages, genders, and ethnicities.
