Goa Assembly Election: Mamata reached out to Sonia for an alliance, says TMC’s Pavan Varma; Congress hits back

The TMC (Trinamool Congress) national vice-president Pavan K Varma said that West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had reached out to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for an alliance for upcoming Goa polls. However, the proposal failed to evoke any positive response from the grand old party.

According to Press Trust of India, Varma said, “Mamata Banerjee herself reached out to Sonia Gandhi a few weeks ago and had said let’s leave behind what has happened in the past and look forward to a new beginning in 2022.”

Reportedly, Varma also said that Sonia Gandhi said she will get back to TMC after discussing it with her party about the alliance. Reacting to this allegation, the leader of the Congress party in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury termed it as a “well-scripted drama”.

The Congress dismissed reports of any talks of alliance with the TMC. The Congress further called Mamata Banerjee’s party an untrustworthy ally. The party also claimed that the isolation of TMC at the national level has forced Mamata Banerjee to reach out for an alliance.
