Free Health Insurance for All Indians Over 70: Government’s New Plan
Indian Government announces major change of direction of its health insurance project. In recent years, there has been a suggestion to make it mandatory for every Indian citizen to have a health insurance policy but free health insurance is offered only in case of persons of and above the age of 70 years. This plan is a scheme called Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
What’s New?
– The elderly, persons above 70 years of age, have also been enrollees for free health care services.
– It will help around 6 crore (60 lakh) elderly persons. The other five crores (45 million) families.
– Each family is eligible to receive FREE Treatment up to ₹ 5,00,000/- (Five lakh rupees) in a year.
How It Works
– For this program, the older people will get a special card.
– If a person’s family already has this insurance, then people over 70 will receive even additional coverage for only them.
– This new plan can be chosen by anyone regardless of the other government health plans of the person.
– All individuals aged 70 and over whether they are rich, poor, or middle class.
– People with private insurance or government job insurance can also join the program.
It is the largest public health insurance scheme in the whole world today. They help the more than 55 crore people of India.
This is how the program has evolved and developed over the period:
1. The bank was started with paid-up capital to finance the first 40% of the poorest of the population of India.
2. The next year it got a new strategy of extending its coverage to more families as the population of India increases in 2022.
3. Later the government escalated the measures further and prohibited the health workers and their families from using social media.
4. Now it is adding all the older people without any thought about whether they need such services or not.
