Finn Allen Demolishes T20 Records with Stunning 151 in MLC

Finn Allen, the explosive opener of New Zealand, showed a masterclass of power-hitting and broke several records of T20 cricket, as San Francisco Unicorns trounced Washington Freedom in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 season opener. His fabulous 151 runs knocked off 67 balls by the left-handed batsman has redefined record books and has set a new standard of T20 cricket in the United States.

Finn Allen Record-Breaking Rampage
The century knock by Allen was coupled with six-hitting skills that were unprecedented and which kept the spectators and the cricket experts mesmerized. The Kiwi opener hit 19 Sixes in his innings, carrying the record of most Sixes in T20, which was jointly held by Chris Gayle and Sahil Chauhan (18 Sixes each). Such a beautiful innings made Allen the new king of T20 six-hitting as he showed an unimaginable consistency in clearing the boundaries.
The carnage that Allen wielded with the bat was on full display right in the very first over when he brought up his century off only 34 deliveries, becoming only the second-fastest century in T20 franchise cricket history. The only thing that comes before the name of Allen in the list of blistering hundreds is the name of Chris Gayle, who registered a century off 30 balls against Pune Warriors in IPL 2013. This was a fast-paced century, which demonstrated Allen’s intention to take charge of the game from the very first ball he faced.
Finn Allen Sets New Standards in American Cricket
The performance of Allen provided various milestones to cricket in the US. His 151 is also the first individual score of all time in MLC history, surpassing the old record of 137 not out by Nicholas Pooran in the 2023 final. More importantly, Allen finished his 150 runs off only 49 balls, setting the fastest 150 in T20 cricket globally and beating the earlier record of 52 balls set by Dewald Brevis.
The effect of the innings of Allen was not just individual, but San Francisco Unicorns went on to pile up an enormous total of 269 for 5, the highest team total in MLC history. The figure was also the first team to score 250 or more runs in a T20 game hosted in America, beating West Indies 245 for 6 against India in 2016.

Team Performance Amplifies Finn Allen’s Heroics
The batting performance of the Unicorns was the best complement to the individual brilliance of Allen. The team hit a total of 28 sixes in their innings, the second-best number of sixes hit by a team in T20 cricket history. This was one short of Baroda’s record of 37 maximums against Sikkim in the domestic T20 tournament in India last December.
Allen also made a significant contribution to the boundary fest as he amassed 134 runs off the boundaries alone, of which 114 were scored off his 19 sixes. This is a boundary-laden strategy that puts him head into the top three T20 batsmen of all time in terms of runs scored via boundaries in one innings. This was part of an aggressive approach by the team as they put on a batting spectacle with at least one six per 16 of their 20 overs.
