Eoin Morgan praises the working environment of KKR after being handed over the captaincy
The captain of this year’s World Cup-winning team of England, Eoin Morgan, has been handed over the captaincy of Kolkata Knight Riders, a team previously captained by Dinesh Karthik.
Recently Morgan described how wicket-keeper and batsman, Dinesh Karthik, came up to him and handed over the lead of the team ahead of the clash on Friday against Mumbai Indians. While talking about the moment, he described the act as ‘incredibly selfless.’ The 34-year-old cricketer said that Karthik approached him just a day before the match against Mumbai Indians and handed him over the captaincy and said that he wants to continue focusing on the batting part.
“DK informed me yesterday that he would like to step back and focus on his batting as he feels that’s the best option for the team. It’s incredibly selfless and it also shows a lot of courage from him to do that, putting the team first ahead of him being skipper,” Morgan said at the toss at the Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi.
He praised the team saying that a world class needs more than one captain to lead the team and KKR has them in abundance. He added that the working environment within the team lets players express themselves very well. Since the start of this year’s Indian Premier League(IPL) Eoin Morgan has been handed over the role of Vice-Captain and this is the first time he will be leading the team for this tournament.
The Twitter handle of the team retweeted CEO Venky Mysore’s tweet saying, “DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and although Eoin takes over as captain, this is effectively a role swap.”
Karthik has not been very good with the bat having scored merely 108 runs of the seven outings so far, 58 being the highest. Currently, the team stands at number four in the point stable.
