Elon Musk Launches ‘xAI’ With Team of Google, Microsoft, OpenAI Engineers
Elon Musk is known for his achievements in electric vehicles, space exploration, and social media. Now he has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) startup called xAI.
The primary aim of the company is to challenge the dominance of major technology corporations in the AI industry, with a specific focus on developing an alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Musk has consistently expressed his concerns about the potential risks of uncontrolled AI advancement and has advocated for cautious regulation in the field. xAI will adopt a distinct approach prioritizing the safety of its AI systems.
Earlier this year, Musk registered a new company called X.AI Corp in Nevada, where he serves as the sole director. This move signifies Musk’s commitment to further exploring AI technology.
He has previously hinted at the launch of TruthGPT, an AI model focused on seeking maximum truth, aimed at rivaling Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing AI, both designed to understand complex information about the world.
Generative AI gained significant attention with the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which showcased the capabilities of AI in generating human-like text responses.
xAI aims to ensure comprehensive AI safety through the guidance of Dan Hendrycks, the director of the Center for AI Safety, who specializes in analyzing the risks associated with AI systems.
Although xAI is a separate entity from X Corp, Musk’s involvement in influential companies like Twitter and Tesla suggests potential collaboration between xAI and these ventures.
As xAI moves forward, the company is actively seeking experienced engineers and researchers in the San Francisco Bay Area to join its team.
Elon Musk’s xAI recently announced its formation as an AI startup, launching its website and unveiling a team consisting of engineers who have previously worked at notable companies such as Google (owned by Alphabet), Microsoft, and OpenAI.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of Twitter, has repeatedly expressed the need for regulation and a pause in AI development. The formation of xAI reflects his dedication to understanding reality through AI.
In March, Musk registered X.AI Corp as a firm incorporated in Nevada, with himself as the sole director and Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk’s family office, as a secretary.
xAI’s website includes an application form for those interested in joining the startup. The current team boasts experience from organizations like DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and the University of Toronto.
Musk has previously expressed his intention to develop a “truth-seeking AI” to rival Microsoft’s OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.

However, he has also raised concerns about the potential negative impacts of AI, referring to its potential for “civilizational destruction.”
Furthermore, Musk has merged Twitter with a newly created “X” shell company while retaining the platform’s brand name.
