Election Commission Introduces New Software to Detect ‘Ghost Voters

It has introduced a new feature into its software designed to fish out so-called “ghost voters” and improve the accuracy of electoral rolls in response to Trinamool Congress (TMC) allegations about the existence of fake voters.
“With this new upgrade, Electoral Registration Officers can find cases where multiple voter names are related to a single EPIC number (Voter ID). This move is an effort to put transparency and credibility at the center of the electoral process”.

The Election Commission has already alerted chief electoral officers from all states on the matter. Earlier this week, a formal communication was sent informing about the new module for correcting duplicate EPIC numbers in the national system.
“Until now, state election officials and district EROs could not check EPIC numbers across states, making it hard to identify duplicate voter IDs. This feature will however provide a centralized view to spot and eliminate inconsistencies,”
