Ekka Kannada Movie Review: Action, Emotions, and Yuva’s Entry

- Stars: Yuva Rajkumar, Sanjana Anand, Sampada Hulivana
- Director: Rohit Padaki
- Rating: 4 stars
Kannada film Ekka made its way out of theatres on July 18 with a new mix of emotions, action and well-executed performances. Rohit Padaki directed the film, which stars Yuva Rajkumar, who played the lead role, and can happily say – He made an impact.
Small Town Boy, Big Heart
Yuva Rajkumar is Muthu, a pleasure-seeking, innocent village guy who just likes to hang out with his friends. Everything was simple and easy until Muthu’s mother sent him to Bengaluru to find a way to make a living. Bengaluru is not very welcoming; it will test your patience and break your will. Bengaluru slowly awakens the beast in you. Muthu’s transition from a carefree school-boy-like nature to someone who fights his demons is something that keeps you emotionally locked in. What caused him to change? Will he ever be true to the promise he made to his mother? That’s exactly what this film is about.

First Half is an Emotional Rollercoaster
The first half of Ekka is intense. You feel the feelings, you are part of the story, and by the time the interval comes, you are invested. It’s emotional, gritty, and so real. The first half of the film raises the bar high in the film. Rohit Padaki does a phenomenal job of crafting a world that feels real while staying gritty and grounded. The story is tight, and every scene feels purposeful.
Second Half Doesn’t Quite Measure Up, but Still Engaging
After a solid first half, the film’s second half gets away a bit too much. Things happen too quickly, especially towards the climax. It feels like the film was forced to finish, which lowers the overall impact.
The disorganization in the screenplay stops Ekka from becoming “great”. However, the emotional weight and acting performances keep it engaging.
Yuva Rajkumar earned his stripes with this performance
Yuva Rajkumar, grandson of the legendary Dr Rajkumar, gives a fantastic performance here. He has matured since his first acting role in Yuva. He shows range, depth, and maturity in Ekka.
