EC stops Bollywood actor Sonu Sood from visiting polling booths
Punjab -The Election Commission (EC) has stopped Bollywood actor Sonu Sood from visiting polling stations in the Moga district of Punjab after the commission received complaints that he was influencing voters.
The officials confirmed that Sonu Sood’s car was impounded on Sunday. His sister Malvika Sood is the Congress party’s candidate from Moga. A complaint was filed against Sonu Sood by a supporter of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Barjinder Singh alias Makhan Brar. The supporter alleged that Sonu Sood influenced voters. However, Sonu Sood denied such allegations.
According to The Tribune, he said, “I am a local resident. I have not asked anyone to vote for any particular candidate or party. I was just visiting our booths set up outside polling stations.” He said that he did not ask anyone to vote for his sister.

Later on, Sonu Sood took to Twitter to accuse other party candidates of trying to buy votes for the election. He wrote on Twitter, “Other Candidates in Moga Constituency are buying votes.” Sonu Sood is an Indian actor, film producer, model, humanitarian, and philanthropist who works in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil films.
His sister joined the Congress in January ahead of the Punjab polls. She contested from her hometown of Moga. She was introduced to the party in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress state unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu.
The Legislative Assembly elections were held in Punjab on 20 February 2022 to elect the 117 members of the 16th Assembly of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022. The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in Pathankot district, recorded 71.5%, the highest voting percentage in the Majha region.
