Most of the Covid-19 related curbs are lifted from Delhi and Maharashtra. Both states decided on Thursday to lift the mask mandate. However, masks are advisable in crowded areas.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday. DDMA decided to discontinue the Rs 500 fine for not wearing face masks in public places from April 1. The fine was reduced from Rs 2,000 to Rs 500 last month.
Reportedly, the DDMA is yet to issue a detailed order. According to the sources, DDMA will advise the continued use of masks in crowded areas. The schools in Delhi will return to only offline mode from Friday. According to The Indian Express, hospitals in the national capital will be directed to test and track people with flu-like symptoms.
Delhi and Maharashtra will not restrict large gatherings as Covid-19 cases have significantly declined in the country. The withdrawal of the restrictions came almost two years after the Covid-19 pandemic.
In Maharashtra, the government announced that all restrictions will be lifted from April 2. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said in a statement, “Gudi Padwa is the beginning of the new year. This is the day to start new work. The Covid-19 restrictions are being completely lifted from Gudi Padwa.”
State Health Minister Rajesh Tope advised people to wear masks in large gatherings to take care of themselves. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister and the Health Minister. Wearing face masks will be voluntary from April 2 in Maharashtra.
Reportedly, there will be no restrictions on public movement, social gatherings, religious gatherings, political gatherings, weddings, funerals, visits to malls and cinema halls.
Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government also announced that all Covid-19 restrictions in the state would be withdrawn.
