Mohan Markam, chief of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), Uttarakhand PCC chief Ganesh Godiyal, Jharkhand PCC chief Rajesh Thakur, Maharashtra PCC chief Nana Patole and Punjab PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu were also seen at the party headquarters in Delhi for the meeting.
In the previous meeting, which was held on October 16 at the Congress Working Committee (CWC), it was decided that organization polls would be held next year. It was decided that an inclusive membership drive would be launched from November 1.
It is in the rumors that taking strong strides, Congress party may hold their next elections on September 6, 2022, and have its official new president by October next year. Congress party has been taking forefront on all pertaining national matters. Be it the farmers’ agitation, relief provision during the pandemic, issues concerning youth and women, atrocities on Dalits, Adivasis and minorities, price rise, and the destruction of the public sector.
It is evident to note that the party had never shied away from raising issues of public importance and coordinating with like-minded parties on these issues. During the CWC meeting, Priyanka Gandhi also raised points on Lakhimpur Kheri incident; the farmers’ agitation, inflation, foreign policy and the continuing border stand-off with China, targeted killing in Jammu and Kashmir and the disinvestment process of India.
A senior official from the Congress party said that the party’s performance in assembly elections would boost the chances of the return of Rahul Gandhi as party chief, if he wants to take over the reins. The focus is to revamp the state units before organizational restructuring keeping an eye on 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
