Congress Alleges AAP For Helping BJP, Announces PM Candidate
Congress leader Udit Raj has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of indirectly supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and making it easier for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come back to power.
Raj claimed that AAP Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is cutting into Congress party’s votes, thereby benefiting the BJP.
He also criticized AAP for allegedly working against reservation policies and failing to develop Delhi.
These statements come amidst tensions between Congress and AAP, with Congress recently announcing that it would run unopposed in the upcoming Delhi Lok Sabha elections.
Additionally, another Congress leader, Sandeep Dixit, criticized Kejriwal’s demand for more power for the Delhi administration, stating that it is unethical and unnecessary.
Dixit argued that the current power division between the Centre and Delhi government is sufficient and that Kejriwal’s demands are motivated by a desire to avoid investigation by the anti-corruption division.
After the first-ever meeting of the opposition alliance on June 23 in Patna, the party led by Arvind Kejriwal stated that it would be difficult for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join an alliance that includes the Congress due to the Congress’s inability to work well with others.
The AAP party had stated, “It would be difficult for the AAP to participate in future gatherings of like-minded parties in which the Congress is a participant unless the Congress condemns the black ordinance (Delhi Services Bill) and declares that all 31 of its Rajya Sabha MPs will vote against the bill in the House.”
There are several ongoing debates & controversies regarding the PM candidates from the opposition alliance. Thus to handle the situation, Congress leader PL Punia has stated that the Prime Minister for the INDIA alliance will be chosen after they come to power.
The alliance consists of 26 opposition parties, including the Congress, who are working together to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The elected MPs from the coalition will decide on the Prime Minister once they win the elections.
