On Sunday, Faruqui was visibly upset after the organizers of his show were contacted by the Bengaluru police regarding his performance after a right-wing organization submitted a memorandum to ban the comedian’s show.
After this incident, the comedian took to Instagram to express his disappointment saying, “Nafrat jeet gayi, artist haar Gaya (hate has won, the artist has lost). I’m done, goodbye. Injustice.”
The letter was addressed to Vishesh Dhuria from Curtain Call events from the police inspector of Ashoknagar police station. The show was scheduled to be held at Good Shepherd auditorium on Sunday, 28 November but it got canceled.
The comedian had earlier also expressed how much these things are impacting his mental, physical and financial well-being. Till now, over 12 of his shows have been canceled which has seriously impacted his career.
In the letter that police wrote, the inspector added, “It is learned that Munawar Faruqui is a controversial figure for his controversial statements on other religions and Gods.” The letter also stated that many states have already banned his comedy and a case has already been registered against him under Tukoganj police station in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. The police further said that many of the organizations are also opposing the stand-up comedy show performed by Faruqui and it is better to cancel the show as it would lead to chaos and disturb public peace and harmony.
