CM Yogi Aditynath Hands Over 76 Flats To Citizens, Built On Mafia’s Lands
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently handed over 76 flats to the underprivileged, which were built on land seized from gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed in Prayagraj.
The flats, constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), were allocated to eligible beneficiaries through a lottery system (to 1,590 people among 6,000).
This initiative signifies the government’s commitment to reclaiming land from land-mafias, gangsters and redistributing it to benefit the common or poor people.
The event was marked by the presence of Chief Minister Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya, who inspected the flats and interacted with the residents, particularly children.
Each flat, covering an area of 41 square meters, consists of two rooms, a kitchen, and a toilet. The Prayagraj Development Authority received over 6,000 applications for these flats, out of which 1,590 individuals were found eligible to participate in the lottery process.
During the function, Chief Minister Adityanath highlighted the significance of this achievement in a state where land grabbing by mafia elements was prevalent until 2017.
He emphasized that the poor and marginalized had no recourse during that time, but the government has now seized land from these criminal syndicates and utilized it to provide homes for those in need.
This endeavor represents a major accomplishment in reclaiming land from the mafia and utilizing it for the betterment of society.
The backstory behind this initiative involves the gangster Atiq Ahmed, who had faced 100+ criminal cases. In April of the current year, Atiq and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were captured on camera being shot dead while being taken for a medical check-up in Prayagraj while under the custody of the Uttar Pradesh police.
Prior to this incident, Atiq had been convicted in a kidnapping case and was serving a life imprisonment sentence.
