Canada Open 2023: PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen Enter Quarterfinals
The 2023 Canada Open is a badminton tournament that is currently being held in Calgary, Canada. The tournament is part of the BWF World Tour and is the fourth Super 500 tournament of the year.
The tournament started on July 4, 2023 and will end on July 9, 2023. The total prize money for the tournament is ₹3.44 crore ($ 420,000).
Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen have advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s and men’s singles competitions, respectively, at the Canada Open Super 500 tournament.
Sindhu received a walkover after her opponent, Natsuki Nidaira, got injured. Meanwhile, Sen defeated Brazil’s Ygor Coelho with a score of 21-15, 21-11 in 31 minutes.
Sindhu will face Gao Fang Jie, the 2022 Indonesia Masters champion, in the quarterfinals. Sen will take on Belgium’s Julien Carraggi.
Unfortunately, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala were eliminated in the pre-quarterfinals after losing to Indonesian second seed Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.
Lakshya Sen has been improving his performance after a slow start to the season. In his match against Coelho, he faced a tough battle but managed to secure the victory with a five-point burst in the first game.
In the second game, Sen dominated and comfortably sealed the match with a score of 12-2.
PV Sindhu received a walkover after her opponent got injured, while Sen defeated his Brazilian opponent in straight sets.
Sindhu will face the 2022 Indonesia Masters champion in the next round, while Sen will take on a player from Belgium. Sen has been improving his performance after a slow start to the season.

The tournament is being held at the Markin-MacPhail Centre, which is a multi-purpose arena in Calgary. The arena has a capacity of 10,000 people.
