Bypolls See Crucial Leadership Shuffle In 11 Indian States Today

Meghalaya – As eleven states in India gear up for by-polls, turnouts are showing mixed results.

Till 5 pm, six states had crossed the 70percent mark, with Meghalaya leading at 78.6percent.

As their mandate is given, these are going to fill some significant seats across the 11 states. There are evident reasons for that too.  For Maharashtra, it is Deglur in the Nanded district that needs some handholding, posts the death of MLA Raosaheb Antapurkar.

In Assam, there has been a tussle of power in five constituencies. This includes Thowra, Mariani, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, and Gossaigaon. The implications of these elections are going to show themselves in the selection of leadership for three Lok Sabha and 29 Assembly seats.

Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh has seen history being created as a 104 years old lady braved to cast her vote in hope of a better tomorrow. Going ahead, Jubbal-Kotkhai has registered a 65.88 percent voter turnout while Mandi has already logged a 47.17 percent turnout till 4 pm. The polling percentage in Fatehpur and Arki was 54.73 percent and 53.97 percent respectively.

Haryana is going to see a power tussle amongst the Chautalas itself; especially in the bypoll in Ellenabad. But here, the tussle isn’t just between them for the Jat vote but an overall tussle will show the prowess of BJP vis-a-vie farm laws debacle. The BJP has fielded controversial MLA Gopal Kanda’s brother Govind Kanda. Bihar has a presence from all ends- Allies Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. The struggle is for two assembly seats only. For Assam, while two seats have fallen vacant due to the death of MLAs, there are three more vacancies arising due to the defection of two Congress and one All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLAs to the BJP.
