Bumrah, Mandhana Win Top Wisden Cricket Honours

A proud moment for Indian cricket as Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana have been declared the world’s leading cricketers by the 2024 edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, a book of high repute in the honor of the game.
Bumrah: Man of the Moment:
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace spearhead, had a dream year in 2024. He performed greatly in all three formats, and Bumrah was named the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup, which India won in the West Indies.
The 31-year-old was praised by Wisden as, “India in 2024 pretty much relied on one man – Jasprit Bumrah. Whenever he had the ball in his hand, magic happened.”
Batting Magic by Mandhana:
Stylish opener Smriti Mandhana took the honour for the women’s category. She had a storming year in 2024, scoring five centuries-four of them being in ODIs. Her consistency was unparalleled.
Her captaincy was further endorsed by the fact that she took Royal Challengers Bengaluru to its first Women’s Premier League title.
Other Big Winners:
Thunderous performances from Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies earned him the title of Leading T20 Player in the World.
The Wisden jury also named five other cricketers – Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith, and Sophie Ecclestone from England, along with Liam Dawson, and Dan Worrall.
The Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, first published in 1864, is sometimes referred to as “the Bible of cricket”-and making it to the Wisden’s pages is one of the sport’s biggest feats.
