A global star like Rihanna asking people why are they not talking about the ongoing farmers’ protest in Delhi, has caused quite a stir on social media. People are either highlighting the fact that the issue has managed to reach an international platform while others feel that there is no need for her to interfere.
One of the most vocal actors of the industry Kangana Ranaut was quick to respond to Rihanna’s question but in a derogatory way. She said that the musician did not even know about the whole issue and was merely commenting on it for the sake of it. Ranaut also called the musical a fool for not knowing better.
But unlike most other times, other famous Bollywood actors were in support of the direction that Ranaut took after Rihanna’s tweet. Actors like Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and director, producer Ekta Kapoor and Karan Johar have called for unity. This is after not only Rihanna but climate change activist and environmentalist Greta Thunberg also commented on farmers’ protest.
Akshay Kumar tweeted, “Farmers constitute an extremely important part of our country. And the efforts being undertaken to resolve their issues are evident. Let’s support an amicable resolution, rather than paying attention to anyone creating differences,” He used hashtags like India together and India Against Propaganda along with the tweet.
Filmmaker Karan Johar too tweeted pleading everyone to not to divide the nation at this crucial time. Karan restricted his tweets as the director is a victim of continuous trolling on the social media platform. “We live in turbulent times and the need of the hour is prudence and patience at every turn,” he added.
Ajay Devgan and vetran actor like Anupam Kher were also the ones requesting people to not divide the nation and be supportive towards a common solution between the government and the farmers. On Wednesday, Devgan tweeted that people should not get carried away with the false propaganda.
On Tuesday, Rihanna shared a story by the news organisation CNN where they reported about the internet blockage. The same story was later shared by the Greta but after it created a social media bluster about the Indian government, the external ministry of affairs released a statement saying that external elements are enforcing their false agendas on the protest to derail them.
