Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar dies at 98, condolences pour in for Saira Banu
Legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar died at 98 on Wednesday morning. The confirmation of the thespian’s death had left the whole film industry in shock and in mourning.
The confirmation came when the late actor’s friend Faisal Farooqui took to Instagram to say, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return.”
The actor has left behind a huge body of work for budding filmmakers to get inspired from. His long life has been dictated with tremendous talent in this creative field which has made every actor look up to him for inspiration. Dilip Kumar was facing health issues for a couple of months and on July 7, the actor passed away at Mumbai’s Hinduja hospital.
The legendary actor was famously known as ‘Tragedy King’ as not only did he make tragedy his go to genre but also his personal life seemed to be a tragedy at all times. Even though he had done tragedy genres more than any other concepts, the actor was also known for his versatility.

He was also the actor who had won the most number of filmfare awards, a number that is equalled by none other than Shahrukh Khan. In addition to this, despite the tensions between India and Pakistan, he became the only actor to have received Pakistan’s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
For his contribution to Indian cinema, the actor received the second-highest civilian honor of the country–Padma Vibhushan along with an award specific to the film industry, Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
He is survived by Saira Banu, who was with him till the very last moment. Bollywood actors quickly started to pour condolence messages to her and mourn the death of one of the greatest actors of the generation.
Anupan Kher posted a video on Twitter sharing his regret as he mourned for Dilip Kumar.
Another actor Ritesh Deshmukh took to twitter to post a series of pictures with the late actor as he wrote, “Every actor that faces the camera today will thank Dilip Sahab for being their teacher.”
Amitabh Bachchan also used social media to express his condolences as he said that the death of Dilip Kumar marks the end of an era.
