Rahman As Brand Ambassador

Rahman As Brand Ambassador: The Indian maestro will now be the ambassador of the BAFTA Breakthrough initiative in India. A.R. Rahman, the Oscar and grammy winning Indian singer cum music composer is all set and excited about his new endeavour.

Through his association, he intends to unearth some great Indian talent in the field of films, gaming and television.  Those selected, will have the rare opportunity to be trained and mentored by Rahman himself.

The selected candidates will get to perform thereafter on global stage. The British Academy of Films and Television Arts is going to be select five pieces of work from India. The independent British charity supports, develops  and promotes art forms of the moving image.

According to Amanda Berry, Chief Executive of BAFTA, “Mr. A.R. Rahman is well positioned to support this initiative, with his broad spectrum of work drawing recognition across Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films, which will help BAFTA to appeal to a wide section of the industry.”

The Breakthrough Initiative is being supported by the OTT platform Netflix. This is for the first time that BAFTA is recognizing talent in India. One major reason could be the speed at which Indian content is becoming popular on various OTT platforms, exhibiting western standards of technology and cinematography.

The jury panel is yet to be decided for the selections. The Breakthrough initiative will offer a year-long mentoring and guidance program. The chosen talent will also connect with and learn from the British and Indian creative industries, and will be promoted as BAFTA Breakthrough artistes globally.
