The upcoming film “Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai” starring actor Manoj Bajpayee has received a legal notice from self-styled godman Asaram Bapu.
Asaram, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018 for the rape of a minor, sent the notice through his charitable trust to the makers of the film. The film’s trailer includes a disclaimer stating that it is inspired by real-life incidents.
The movie, described as a courtroom drama, revolves around a high court lawyer who fights a case of rape against a minor under the POCSO Act.
The producer of the film, Asif Shaikh, has stated that they have received the notice and their lawyers will decide the next course of action.
He also mentioned that they have obtained the rights from PC Solanki, on whom the film is based, and if someone claims the film is about them, it is their perception.
Asaram’s lawyers have reportedly requested the court to issue prohibitory orders against the promotion and release of the film, arguing that it is highly objectionable and defamatory towards Asaram. They contend that the film could harm his reputation and hurt the sentiments of his followers.
The film aims to shed light on the story of PC Solanki and his battle for truth and justice. However, the legal notice from Asaram Bapu and his lawyers indicates that they believe the film intends to defame Asaram and tarnish his reputation.
The filmmakers maintain that the truth will be revealed when the film is released and that it is based on the story of PC Solanki.
“Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai” is directed by Apoorv Singh Karki and is set to be released on ZEE5 on May 23. It has also been selected for screening at the New York Indian Film Festival, with Manoj Bajpayee attending the special screening on May 13.
