Abdullah bin Zayed and Jaishankar Lead UAE-India Strategic Partnership Talks
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is the UAE’s counterpart, met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday. The 4th India-UAE Strategic Dialogue was held in New Delhi by both leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Zayed Al Nahyan earlier in the day and conveyed his hope for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates.
Writing on X social media platform, PM Modi conveyed his happiness at welcoming the Deputy PM and stated that both countries were dedicated to promoting security, stability and peace in West Asia and the surrounding area.
According to Sheikh Abdullah, the two countries have developed a special kind of privileged relationship over the course of more than 50 years based on mutual respect, trust and common interests. “This partnership has evolved into a comprehensive collaboration that contributes to sustainable development and prosperity for both nation’s peoples.”
He provided information about the UAE-India bilateral trade emphasizing that it has reached “new heights, driven by the success of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This agreement has significantly reduced barriers, fostering stronger trade, investment, and collaboration across key sectors.”
In order to show the two nation’s dedication to mutual development, he highlighted the significance of the continuous bilateral collaborations and developments in the fields of essential minerals, food security and renewable energy. “The emphasis on nuclear energy underscores our shared vision for a low-carbon future ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy transition. Furthermore, our work together in a new polar research initiative exemplifies our joint efforts to address evolving global challenges unlocking promising opportunities to tackle issues such as resource management, climate change and technological innovation.”
Citing the hundreds of weekly flights that connect the two countries, Sheikh Abdullah said that the air transport link between them is equally important. He mentioned the significance of cutting-edge research, advanced sciences and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and supercomputing as priorities for the two countries that stimulate innovation, push modern solutions and creatively and unconventionally build the future. He continued by saying that trilateral projects with third countries represent the last area in which the two countries see significant possibilities for cooperation.
Notably on September 1st 2022, Jaishankar and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al Nahyan co-chaired the 14th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in Abu Dhabi. To expand their relationship, the parties also inked a Memorandum of Understanding in 2022 to create a Cultural Council Forum. The MEA press release stated, “These are MoU between the Wildlife Institute of India and the International Fund for Houbara Conservation for the Conservation of the Great Indian Bustard and the Lesser Florican,”
