6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Nepal, India Extends Support
A tragic earthquake has struck our neighboring country, Nepal, late Friday night. Originating in the Jajarkot district, this severe tremor, measuring 6.4 in magnitude, has caused immense distress. Sadly, it has resulted in the loss of 129 lives and has injured many others.
In response to this calamity, Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, immediately visited the affected areas to oversee rescue and relief operations. The Nepalese government is taking swift action, mobilizing all three security agencies for urgent help.
India, sharing a close bond with Nepal, has extended a hand of support in these difficult times. Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed deep sorrow for the lives lost and damages incurred due to the earthquake.
Through his message on social media, PM Modi assured that India stands united with the people of Nepal and is ready to offer all necessary assistance. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

In Nepal, the impact of the quake was particularly devastating in the districts of Jajarkot and Rukum, where most casualties occurred.
To manage the medical needs of the earthquake victims, four hospitals, namely Bheri Hospital, Kohalpur Medical College, Nepalgunj military hospital, and Police Hospital, have been designated as specialized centers. Surkhet District Hospital is also treating some of the injured.
To facilitate immediate rescue and medical aid, all helicopter operators in Nepal have been instructed to be on standby for airlifting the injured.
For this purpose, regular flight operations are temporarily suspended. Ambulances are positioned at strategic locations like Nepalgunj Airport and military barracks to ensure quick transportation.
Now, you might wonder, why Nepal frequently faces earthquakes. It’s due to its location on a significant geological fault line, where the Indian tectonic plate collides with the Eurasian plate. This immense geological activity, which formed the Himalayas ages ago, makes the region prone to earthquakes.
As neighbors and friends, it’s a moment for us to stand in solidarity with Nepal, offering our support and prayers during this difficult time.
The tremors of the Nepal Earthquake were also felt across northern India, including Delhi-NCR, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
The quake occurred deep in the ground and lasted for more than a minute, causing people in tall buildings to hurriedly go outside for safety.
This event added to the worries of Delhi residents, who are already facing very high air pollution, with the Air Quality Index crossing the ‘400’ mark.
Thankfully, there were no significant damages or injuries reported, but it’s a stark reminder for us to always be prepared for such natural events.
