The 48th International Kolkata Book Fair began with the inauguration ceremony which was graced by the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, other important dignitaries from the countries which includes Germany, USA, UK, France, Russia, Nepal and other Latin American countries. During this glorious event the famous Bengali Writer Abul Basshar was honored with the Guild Lifetime Literary Award and a cash prize of 2,00,000 for his remarkable contribution as a writer to literature.
People can visit the book fair from 12 pm to 8 pm with an extended hours that lasts till 9 pm. The book fair closes on February 9, 2025. The esteemed author Joy Goswami, publisher Ranjan Sarkar and reader Satyabrata Ghoshal will be honoured during a special event which will take place on ‘Senior Citizens Day’ observed on February 4, 2025 at 4.30pm. As per the given information, an initiative titled as “Buy Books and Win a Book Library” will be launched in the fair in order to foster reading among the younger generations. The 15 lucky winners of the initiative will receive Book Gift Coupons worth Rs.1000.
Kolkata’s International Book Fair is the largest book fair in Asia and it is recorded as the world’s most attended literary festival. This showcases the deep history of the event and the seminal given to the literature for the future generation. In the 48th book fair there are around 1000 publishers and 600+ book stalls have been approved to take part in the significant event.
