Yudh Abhyas 2023: India-US Military Exercise To Begin In Alaska
The Indian Army & US Army are going to participate in a joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2023’, in extreme conditions, to strengthen military bonds & skills.
Indian army contingents have left for Alaska to participate in the joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas 2023’ with the US army.
The Indian Army, along with the US Army and ‘ADMM plus EWG’ with ASEAN Nations, departed from New Delhi for the exercise.
The Director General of Infantry interacted with the contingents before their departure, encouraging them to display the highest standards of training and learn from the best practices of the participating nations.
The goal of this India-US joint military exercise is to exchange best practices, enhance interoperability, and strengthen the bond between the Indian Forces and US Armies.
It will take place from September 25 to October 8 at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, US, and will involve 350 personnel from the Indian Army.
The lead battalion from the Indian side is affiliated with the MARATHA Light Infantry Regiment, while the US side will be represented by the 1-24 Infantry Battalion of the 1st Brigade Combat Team.
During the exercise, both sides will practice strategic drills to enhance and exchange of capabilities in conducting UN peacekeeping operations. They will also hold detailed discussions to share their experiences and best practices.
The theme of the ‘Yudh Abhyas 2023’ exercise is ‘Employment of an Integrated Battle Group in Mountain/Extreme Climatic Conditions’ under Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate.

The Field Training Exercise includes the –
- Validation of Integrated Battle Groups against hostile forces at the Brigade level.
- Integrated Surveillance Grid at the Brigade/Battalion level.
- Employment of Heliborne/Airborne elements and Force Multipliers.
- Validation of logistics and casualty management during operations.
- Evacuation, combat medical aid.
- Other aspects applicable to High Altitude Areas and Extreme Climatic Conditions.
‘Yudh Abhyas 2023’ will facilitate mutual learning between both armies and further strengthen their bonds.
The joint drills will also provide an opportunity for personnel from different nations to work together and enhance their capabilities in challenging mountain and extreme climatic conditions.
The exercise will also enhance the cooperation and collaboration between India and the United States in the field of defense and military training.
