Why Does Apple Want To Import iPhone 16 Batteries From India?

Apple, the tech giant known for its iPhones, is making a significant shift in its manufacturing strategy, and India is at the heart of this change.

Here’s what’s happening: Apple is looking to source batteries for its upcoming iPhone 16 from India, moving away from its traditional reliance on China.

It’s the first time Apple is sourcing such a critical component for its flagship product from India. The decision aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its supply chain, reducing dependence on any single country.

Apple is actively moving to diversify where it gets parts for iPhones. The company plans to source batteries for the iPhone 16 from India. This is part of Apple’s larger plan to reduce its reliance on China for manufacturing.

There’s talk that Apple might even produce the iPhone 17 in India. Traditionally, Apple has heavily relied on China for production. If this happens, it could strengthen Apple’s relationship with the Indian government and potentially boost iPhone sales in the country.

Already, about 12-14% of iPhones sold globally are made in India. Apple aims to ramp up this production, targeting over $40 billion in the next 4-5 years. It seems that Apple is trying to make India a key hub for its production network.

Japanese electronic parts maker TDK Corp is set to play a crucial role in this new development. They will manufacture lithium-ion battery cells for iPhones in India.

This move by Apple is not just about diversifying its supply chain; it’s also a response to the ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and China. By expanding its manufacturing base to India, Apple is looking to mitigate risks associated with over-dependence on China.
