Why did Salman Khan switch to Zee studios from YRF for his upcoming movie ‘Radhe’?
Radhe: Earlier it was revealed that Salman Khan has sold the rights to his upcoming thriller Radhe- Your most wanted bhai, to Zee Studious despite confirming a deal with the Yash Raj banner. The reason behind this step was unknown for a long till recently when one of the entertainment news websites revealed the details.
The Salman Khan Films had sold the rights to Zee Studios for Rs 230 crores and this includes theatrical (India + Overseas), Satellite, Digital and Music rights of the film. Many people speculated that the reason behind the split for YRF may be a fall out between Salman and Aditya Kapoor but to the contrary of those claims, the decision has been taken amicably.
A source exclusively told Bollywood Hungama, “YRF had entered into an agreement with Salman Khan Films (SKF) to distribute the film globally on a commission basis, which meant that the income for SKF would vary according to the business the film does theatrically.”
They further explained in such deals, there is always an element of uncertainty as it completely depends on the business that the film is making especially given the fact that the world is struggling to cope up with the pandemic.
Salman had already entered a deal with Amazon for its digital rights, which will be on the OTT platform eight weeks after its theatrical release while Zee had the satellite rights. Music rights for the movie were given to T-Series.
One of the other reasons behind this step was that Salman wanted all of these rights and elements to be under one umbrella which will be more convenient to handle Vis-à-vis a structure that is going haywire, added the source.
The source further squashed all the claims of animosity between Salman and Aditya saying, “Salman and Aditya Chopra spoke on this and mutually decided to part ways, before they collaborated again on Tiger 3 from March. Adi understands business better than anyone else in the industry and gave him his nod.”
After signing the deal with Zee, Salman Khan has taken a on table deal of Rs 230 crores, of which Rs 100 crores is the profit that the star has earned.
