What is the outrage about Badminton Star Saina Nehwal and Actor Siddharth?
Indian Badminton ace Saina Nehwal recently took to Twitter to address Prime Minister Narendra Modi which caused quite a huge stir among the masses.
The issue began as actor Siddharth, known for his work in South Indian movies, made a remark that did not go down well with most of the Twitter audience. Nehwal had tweeted about an attack on PM Modi by alleged anarchists saying that even the nation cannot be called safe if the Prime Minister is not safe.
“No nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists,” 2012 Olympic bronze medalist said.
To this, the actor used Badminton terminology as he took a dig at the shuttler. He referred to her as the “Subtle cock” champion saying that we should be thankful to God that we already have protestors of India. “Folded hands. Shame on you Rihanna,” he added.
The term was not well received by the audience who then started pouncing on the actor for degrading her. Here, the way the actor used Rihanna is connected to the pop star tweeting about farmers’ protests last year. She supported the plea of the farmers to repeal the law that was allegedly forced on them.
His tweet was criticized by the National Commission for Women ‘s chairperson Rekha Sharma who said that he needs to be taught a lesson. However, the actor later on justified the context of the term saying that it was in reference to a phrase.
