The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, responded to the report by stating that India was aware of its release but regretted that such reports continued to be based on flawed information and a misguided understanding.
Bagchi emphasized that the report’s credibility was undermined by its motivated and biased commentary, which did not accurately represent the situation in India.

However, India maintains that the allegations are unfounded and based on misinformation.
In addition to the US report, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues has also criticized India’s decision to hold the G20 meeting in Kashmir, questioning the choice of location.
India has responded strongly to this objection, stating that it is its sovereign right to hold international events within its territory and that such objections are unwarranted.
India has strongly refuted the claims made in the US Religious Freedom Report 2022, asserting that it is filled with misinformation, bias, and flawed understanding.
The Indian government considers the report to be motivated by ulterior motives and believes that it undermines the credibility of such assessments.
