UPI Expands Globally: Now Indians Can Make UPI Payments In The UK

The Indian UPI payment system is consistently expanding globally. After a partnership, now Indian travelers can make UPI payment in the United Kingdom.

Unified Payments Interface, a real-time payments system created domestically, is prepared to enter the UK market, beginning with QR code-based payments.

The NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), according to a PTI report, has partnered with transactions solutions provider PayXpert to expand the acceptability of its payment solutions outside of the UK.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which created the UPI and the RuPay card programme, owns all of NIPL.

In an announcement on Thursday, NPCI stated that the partnership would make Indian payment solutions accessible in the UK on all PayXpert’s Android point-of-sale (POS) devices for in-store purchases, initially with UPI-based QR code payments and later incorporating the opportunity for RuPay card payments.

The entry of UPI and RuPay will expand the company’s market in the UK, according to David Armstrong, Managing Director of PayXpert.

The ability of the company’s offering for UK merchants will be considerably strengthened, he claimed.

Head of International Partnership, Business Development, and Marketing at NPCI International, Anubhav Sharma, stated, “Through PayXpert’s POS systems, Indian travelers to the UK will now be able to take advantage of UPI’s payments network.

We consider this partnership to be a significant turning point, and we intend to soon expand the ability to use RuPay cards for payments.”

More than 5 lakh Indians, with over 1 lakh students, visit the UK annually, according to the NPCI, according to the PTI report.

Bhutan is the second nation after India that accepts RuPay cards and was the first to approve the Unified Payment Interface specifications for NPCI’s QR deployment in July 2021.

In an effort to promote real-time digital transactions, the UPI first entered Nepal, a neighboring nation, in February of this year.
