UAE Gender Balance Council
UAE Gender Balance Council, established in 2015, is a federal entity which is responsible for developing and implementing the agenda of gender balance in the UAE. The Council is chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment and wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The objectives of the Council include reducing the gender gap across all federal sectors, improve UAE’s ranking in gender equality on international level and achieve gender balance in the positions of gender making capacity. Through these guiding pathways, UAE is constantly achieving gender equality and balance across sectors.
The Gender Balance Guide includes five key areas for action to promote gender equality – commitment and oversight; integration of gender into policies and programs; promoting gender-sensitive engagement of personnel; improving gender balance in leadership; and gender-sensitive interaction.
To further promote gender balance, the authority promoted Extended Maternity Leaves in the UAE in 2016 to enhance the family aspect of women’s life. This initiative is currently led by the UAE Gender Balance Council.
Education and employment form two of the most important pillars of UAE’s “knowledge-based economy”. The gender balance and equal opportunities provide a level playing field for Emirati women and men, leading to happy and satisfied lives of UAE residents and citizens.
