Twitter Outage: Twitter Back Online After Software Glitch Disrupts Services

Twitter said on Friday it had fixed a software glitch in its website that had disrupted services for many of its users. The app was down for thousands of users on Friday across the globe.

Netizens across the globe reported that they were unable to tweet or reply. Some users even faced issues while logging in to their accounts. Subsequently, the micro-blogging site said in a tweet, “We’ve fixed a technical bug that was preventing timelines from loading and Tweets from posting.” After fixing the issue of a technical bug from the site, Twitter said that things should be back to normal.

Reportedly, over 40,000 users had reported outages of the service on Downdetector. It tracks outages by collating status reports from a different number of sources. More than 2,000 users in India reported the issue on Downdetector late at night on Friday. They were not able to use Twitter on Android and iOS (iPhone Operating System) as well as via a Web browser. People from Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, Jaipur, Hyderabad, and Chennai reported the issue on Downdetector. They were unable to tweet or log in to their account.

Reportedly, people from the United States (US) and Great Britain also reported similar issues. Downdetector showed more than 40,000 reports of outages in the United States at 11 pm on Friday. In Great Britain, a total of 16,666 outages were reported at midnight on Friday. Tweets of users were not visible during the brief outage. Reportedly, some users on Reddit complained of being logged out of their Twitter account. In the US, the west coast got affected with locations like San Francisco, Seattle and Los Angeles seeing major outages.

Last year in April 2021, Twitter faced a similar major outage when the service was down on two occasions in the same day.
