TV industry keeps its guard up again to fight the third wave of Covid-19; Shoots will continue

Maharashtra –  Maharashtra has been under the spotlight because of the growing numbers of Covid-19 cases. With restrictions imposed in Mumbai, the television industry has been taking extra precautions to safeguard itself. The state reported 44,388 new Covid-19 cases and 12 Covid-related deaths in the state on Sunday. Mumbai reported 19,474 cases on Sunday.

According to a report by The Indian Express, with most cast and crew of the Television industry travelling around New Year, a rise in Covid-19 cases was expected. Recently, many television celebrities were tested positive for Covid-19.

Covid-19 affected television channels

In 2020, shoots for television series were halted for four months. It led to a huge financial loss. Jobs were lost, mental health took a toll on television actors. Reportedly, people even took some drastic steps as they failed to fight the hurdles.

In 2021, during the second wave of Covid-19, some channels decided to move their television shows outside Mumbai. They did not shut down the production because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Some channels continued the shoot in Mumbai by following covid-19 protocols.

JD Majethia, chairman of Indian Films and Television Producers Council, told The Indian Express that given the industry is now recognised as frontline workers, they cannot stop working.  Majethia added, “We will be frontline workers by keeping people entertained and at home.”

Frames Productions’ Ranjit Thakur said that the production house has already decided to shoot with fewer people to ensure the safety of the workers. Other production houses also decided to work with a lesser workforce.

This year, they did not cancel the shoots. Production houses told the teams to be more careful. Most of the reality shows may decide to do the ‘no studio audience’ stance as a precaution to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Reportedly, most production houses have also gotten doctors to visit the set to ensure the safety of television artists. Actors on the set of Sasural Genda Phool follow all Covid-19 protocols. They also get tested at regular intervals
