There Is No Justification For Terrorism: Eam S. Jaishankar
India has invited Pakistan, China & other countries in the SCO meeting. During the occasion India has clearly stated that terrorism can’t be justified in any way!
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the opening segment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers on Friday, emphasizing the need to block the channel of finances for terror activities and to combat cross-border terrorism.
Jaishankar stressed that the threat of terrorism has not abated despite the ongoing Covid pandemic, and that the world cannot take its eyes off this menace, as it would be detrimental to global security interests.
He also noted that combating terrorism is one of the original mandates of the SCO, and that the channel of activities for terrorist activities must be seized and blocked without distinction.
Jaishankar further highlighted the challenges faced by the world due to the pandemic and geopolitical upheavals, including disruptions in global supply chains.
He also acknowledged that the unfolding situation in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s return to power “remains at the center of our attention,” and that efforts should be directed towards the welfare of the Afghan people.
Jaishankar added that immediate priorities include providing humanitarian assistance, ensuring a truly inclusive and representative government, combating terrorism and drug trafficking, and preserving the rights of women, children, and minorities.
In addition, a video was shared by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson showing Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party and the son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, arriving in Goa for the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, where he is leading the Pakistani delegation.
The video also showed Jaishankar greeting Zardari in Indian tradition with a “Namastey”, avoiding a handshake.
The Indian External Affairs Minister’s statement reaffirms India’s strong stance against terrorism and cross-border terrorism.
This comes in the backdrop of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan over the issue of cross-border terrorism, and India’s recent decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
The SCO, which comprises eight member countries including India, Pakistan, China, and Russia, is a regional intergovernmental organization aimed at promoting cooperation on security, economy, and culture among its members.
