Prasson Joshi had earlier dismissed 12 MPs from Rajya Sabha for indiscipline during the monsoon session and the decision was announced on the first day of the winter session. Opposing the decision, Tharoor said that he will not be hosting the show called ‘To the point’ for Sansad TV til the suspension is revoked.
In his statement, the Congress leader said, “I am concerned that my continued involvement in hosting a show on Sansad TV would be seen as making me complicit in the undemocratic manner in which Parliamentary institutions are being run.”
He also said that it is his duty to show solidarity with them as an MP as he has been regularly going to support them while they are protesting against the decision. The incident saw not just Congress’ but TMC’s, CPI(M), CPI(L)’s MPs were also there in the list of the MPs suspended.
The MP also accused the television channel for being part of the problem because of all that is happening. He explained that the channel has a habit of focusing the cameras on the members of the Treasury benches while ignoring the Opposition and this makes the situation very difficult to judge and hence it is extremely unfair.
Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Priyana Chaturvedi, had also stepped down from hosting her show Meri Kahaani on Sansad TV. Explaining her decision to quit, Chaturvedi said that when today, the highest number of women MPs have been suspended in the history for the entire winter session, then it is her duty to stand and speak up for them.
