Rohit Sharma’s Team India Meets PM Modi After Winning T20 World Cup
The captain of the Indian cricket team Rohit Sharma and the team left the ITC Maurya where they were staying after arriving from the Delhi airport, and they reached Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. Their meeting with the PM began at 11 am.
The T20 World Cup champions are finally home!
After departing from Barbados following Hurricane Beryl Rohit Sharma’s Team India landed in New Delhi. The team has returned home after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean. They ended India’s long wait for an ICC title by defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.
The Indian team flew to Delhi on a charter flight from Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday. The team members were stranded for three days due to a category four hurricane in Barbados. Air India arranged a special charter flight named “Air India Champions 24 World Cup” (AIC24WC), which left the Caribbean island at 4:50 a.m. local time and landed in Delhi around 6:20 a.m. IST today.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized the charter flight for the Indian squad, support staff, players’ families, board officials, and members of the traveling media contingent after their departure was delayed due to the hurricane. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla mentioned that Indian journalists, who were also stuck in Barbados, boarded the same flight along with BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah.

Upon receiving a heroes’ welcome, Rohit’s Team India headed to the ITC Maurya, where Rishabh Pant carried the trophy inside. They will meet PM Narendra Modi at his residence at 11 am. After breakfast with the PM, the team will leave for Mumbai. Later in the evening, there will be a roadshow from Nariman Point in an open bus, followed by a felicitation event at the Wankhede Stadium to celebrate their victory.
