TCS-Led Consortium Gets ₹15,000 Crore Order From BSNL
TCS backed Consortium has received a ₹15,000 crore deal from BSNL to deploy 4G networks across India. TCS’ Tejas Networks also received an order of ₹696 crore.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of India’s leading IT companies, has secured a significant contract worth over ₹15,000 crore from BSNL. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is a government-owned telecommunications company.
The contract involves the deployment of a nationwide 4G network in India, with TCS heading a consortium to carry out the project.
This development comes at a time when other major players in the Indian telecom industry, such as Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, are actively expanding their 5G infrastructure across the country.
BSNL, in preparation for the launch of its 4G services, introduced pilot-mode 4G services in certain areas of Punjab on April 22.
The company is currently conducting live testing of its 4G services at 135 tower sites, utilizing a domestically developed telecom stack.
As part of this contract, TCS’s subsidiary, Tejas Networks Limited, has also received an order worth ₹696 crore from BSNL.
Tejas Networks specializes in the development and production of wireless networking solutions and will enhance BSNL’s nationwide IP-MPLS based Access and Aggregation Network (MAAN).
The agreement includes the provision, installation, and commissioning of over 13,000 advanced ‘TJ1400’ series access and aggregation routers within the next 18 months.
Tejas Networks operates on a global scale, offering optical, broadband, and data networking products to customers in various industries, including telecommunications service providers, government entities, and defense sectors in 75 countries.
Following the announcement, both TCS and Tejas Networks witnessed a rise in their stock prices on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
TCS experienced a 0.70% increase, trading at ₹3,245.05 per share, while Tejas Networks saw a 0.97% rise, trading at ₹648.20 per share.
This contract highlights TCS’s expertise and capabilities in delivering large-scale IT projects, particularly in the telecommunications sector.
