Noida, Uttar Pradesh is getting its very own international airport. And for its construction, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the franchise for the Noida International Airport has selected Tata Projects Ltd. The Tata projects will be tasked to undertake the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the new Greenfield airport which is soon coming up at Jewar.
“Together with Tata Projects, we’re working to deliver a passenger terminal, runway, and other airport infrastructure with a capacity of 12 million passengers annually, by 2024. We are aiming to enable, promote and strengthen all-inclusive sustainable development of aviation ecosystem in India. Noida International Airport will bolster employment generation and economic growth in the state as well as the country,” said Christoph Schnellmann, Chief Executive Officer, YIAPL.
Under the agreement, Tata Projects Ltd will be responsible for constructing the terminals, runway, infrastructure on airside, utilities, roads, facilities on landside and other additional buildings at the Jewar’s Noida International Airport.
A 100% subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, YIAPL has been incorporated to develop the Greenfield Noida International Airport. A concession agreement was signed between YIAPL and Uttar Pradesh Government in October 2020 to commence the airport construction at Jewar. The company is responsible for executing the Public-Private Partnership project together with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority.
The Tata Group is continuing to expand its growth in the aviation sector with this latest project under its wings. The last major accomplishment was taking over the national carrier Air India, bringing back the airline to Tata after 68 years.
Apart from Air India, Tata Group also has its involvement in other carriers. Tata Sons is in joint venture for Air Asia airline since 2012 with current holdings of 84 per cent.
Furthermore, Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines have a joint venture in Vistara airlines with the former having 51 per cent shares in the airline that commenced its operations in 2015.
