Tata Electronics Plans To Expand Its iPhone Factory, To Employ 28k People

Tata Electronics has acquired a 100% stake in Wistron India. This monumental deal was officially announced on October 27.

The reason behind this acquisition was a strategic step for Tata Electronics to enhance its capabilities in the smartphone manufacturing sector, specifically in the assembly of Apple iPhones.

The acquisition of Wistron India marks Tata Electronics as the first Indian company to enter the elite group of iPhone manufacturers, a remarkable achievement indeed.

The Hosur plant is an integral part of this venture. Tata Electronics is planning a major expansion of this facility. Currently, the Hosur plant is an impressive site, spanning 500 acres and housing over 15,000 employees.

But the Tata Group isn’t stopping there. They plan to double the size of this plant within the next 12 to 18 months. This expansion is not just about size; it’s about impact. With this growth, the workforce at the Hosur plant is expected to surge to around 25,000 to 28,000 individuals.

The timeline for this expansion is quite ambitious. Tata Electronics aims to complete this project within the next year to a year and a half.

The partnership between Tata Electronics and Apple in the realm of smartphone manufacturing, this collaboration is a game-changer. It’s not just about assembling iPhones; it’s about positioning India as a key player in the global smartphone manufacturing landscape.

Through this partnership, Tata Electronics is diversifying Apple’s manufacturing operations away from China, highlighting India’s growing prominence in the technology sector. This is a testament to the quality and capability of Indian manufacturing and is a proud moment for all of us.

So, Tata Electronics’ acquisition of Wistron India and the expansion of the Hosur plant are significant steps in enhancing India’s position in the global tech industry.
