Sumit Antil Smashes Own World Record At Asian Para Games 2023
What a day it has been for India at the Asian Para Games 2023! Our athletes are shining, and the nation is proud of them.
Let’s talk about Sumit Antil first. Sumit took part in the men’s Javelin Throw-F64 event and did an incredible job. He broke his own world record by throwing the javelin 73.29 meters away on his third try.
This won him a gold medal and also set new records for the Asian Para Games and Asia. His previous best was 70.83 meters, which he threw at the Para World Championships earlier this year.
Now, another star for India in the same event was Pushpendra Singh. He also made the nation proud by securing a bronze medal. His best throw was 62.06 meters.
Pushpendra followed Sri Lanka’s Arachchige Samitha, who won silver with a 62.42-meter throw. So, India got both gold and bronze in this event, making it a double delight.
Coming to India’s overall performance, it has been very impressive. As of now, India has won a total of 36 medals in these games. These include 10 gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze medals. The Indian team is doing really well and is currently ranked 5th overall.
And it’s worth mentioning that India has sent its largest-ever team to this event. This year we have 303 athletes taking part.
To give you some context, in the 2018 Asian Para Games, India was represented by 190 athletes. They brought home 72 medals, 15 of them gold. So, the hope is that with a larger team, we can win even more medals this time.
The Asian Para Games 2023 is a grand sports event where athletes with disabilities from all over Asia compete. It’s like the Olympics but for those with special needs.
This event showcases amazing talent and sportsmanship, showing us that physical challenges can be overcome with spirit and determination. The games include various sports like swimming, athletics, and badminton among others.
