259 Candidates To Battle In Tripura Assembly Elections
The Tripura Assembly Elections are scheduled on 16th February. There will be 55 BJP candidates, 43 CPM, 42 TIPRA Motha, 28 TMC, 13 Congress & 9 BJP ally’s candidates.
The chief electoral officer Kiran Dinkarrao Gitte said on Thursday that a total of 259 candidates are running for the forthcoming Tripura assembly elections, which are set for February 16.
19 of the 310 nomination papers submitted between January 1 and January 30 were rejected for various reasons, including lack of security deposit and insufficient proposers.
The BJP has the most candidates (55), followed by CPM with 43, TIPRA Motha with 42, Trinamool Congress (TMC) with 28 candidates, Congress with 13 candidates, IPFT with 6 candidates, and the Forward Bloc with one candidate apiece.
Seven individuals are running from parties that are not recognised, for a total of 58 independent candidates.
Ten constituencies had the most candidates, with six running for each seat: Bamutia, Agartala, Town Bardowali in West Tripura, Dhanpur in Sepahijala district, Amarpur in Gomati district, Dharmanagar and Kanchanpur in North Tripura, and Surma, Ambassa, and Chowmanu constituencies in Dhalai district.
With just two running for each seat, Jubarajnagar, Barjala, and Sabroom constituencies in North and South Tripura have the fewest candidates.
1,128 voting places out of 3,337 have been deemed vulnerable, while 240 have been deemed essential.
A total of 11,000 police officers and the Tripura State Rifles are also stationed throughout the state in addition to the 400 companies of the central armed police force (CAPF).
For security reasons, the interstate borders with Assam and Mizoram would also be sealed.
Prior to the February 16 Assembly elections, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha conducted a door-to-door campaign in the state capital Agartala on Thursday. The BJP wants to stay in office and secure a second term in the north-eastern state.
Top BJP sources claim that Nadda will begin a Vijay Sankalp Yatra from Amarpur today in order to launch the electoral campaign.
On February 3, he also plans to hold two open rallies across the state. Later, Nadda would convene a meeting of the state’s top officials to finalize the party’s election strategy.
