Absence of opening batsman Rohit Sharma, the in-form KL Rahul will be taking the space for vice-captain. KL Rahul has also been included in the test squad after a long period of time.
On Monday, BCCI’s senior selection committee announced the team for the India tour Australia, a series that will essentially consist of four test matches, three One-day international matches and three Twenty20 matches. Rohit Sharma had suffered hamstring injury while playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League, which led to his absence in all three formats of the game.
Another player who could not make it to the playing eleven for limited overs was wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant even though he managed to get a place in the test squad. Some few variations can be seen in this squad with vetran bowler Ishant Sharma too missing the cut due to his rib injury, which was also the reason he could not play this IPL.
Bowling powerhouse from the current team of Bengaluru in IPL, Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini have made the cut as far as red bowl is concerned. For Twenty20,however, varun Chakravarthy, the mystery boy of Kolkata Knight Riders has been given a chance. He recently had a five-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals.
With Rishabh Pant not being handed over the wicket-keeping gloves, KL Rahul will be the lone wicket-keeper in the team and Sanju Samson, who has also been given a chance after his fine stint in IPL.
The BCCI has also announced additional four bowlers — Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kartik Tyagi, Ishan Porel and T. Natarajan — will be travelling with the Indian contingent. All the additional bowlers are fast bowlers.
The India tour of Australia will commence on November 27, 2020 where the series will start with a 50-over match followed by the shortest format and then the test game.
Fans are outraged over Rohit Sharma’s exclusion sitting injury because the Mumbai Indian’s captain was seen back in nets ahead of their clash against Royal Challeneger’s Bengaluru. Sharma has one of the best batting averages against the Aussies and the fans are speculating that his exclusion might lead to a disastrous result.
