Rishabh Pant Becomes Fastest Indian Wicket Keeper To Score Test Century

IND vs ENG: Breaking MS Dhoni’s record, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant now holds the record for making the fastest century in a test match outside of Asia.

Rishabh Pant, a dynamic Indian wicket-keeper and batsman, reached his sixth Test century on the opening day of the series-deciding match versus England at Edgbaston.

Pant scored 146 runs in a counter-attacking strategy to put the English bowlers on the defensive.

He scored the third-fastest century outside of Asia for India, reaching the milestone in 89 balls, to help India get back into the match after losing early wickets.

Twenty 4s and four 6s were placed throughout the southpaw’s “Pantastic” stroke. With considerable assistance from Ravindra Jadeja at the other end, he amassed the greatest sixth-wicket partnership for India against England—222 runs—as the two lefties shared the crease.

Rishabh Pant also surpassed MS Dhoni’s previous Test record for the quickest century by an Indian wicketkeeper. In 2006, Dhoni crushed Pakistan with a century off just 93 balls

Interestingly, Pant, who is 24 years old, is the only Indian wicketkeeper on the record to smash two centuries on foreign soil.

Pant also became the 4th Indian wicketkeeper to do so in a calendar year. He scored a century earlier this year in Cape Town against South Africa.

The left-hander has made history by becoming the first foreign wicketkeeper to hit two centuries in England within a year.

During the 5th Test of the 2018 tour, he hit his first century on English territory. During his counterattacking knock, he also reached the milestone of 2000 runs in Test cricket.

Pant observed his partners making their way back toward the pavilion and made the decision to bat with a forceful approach.

He began searching for limits practically everywhere. When Jack Leach returned in the 37th over, India scored more runs when Pant stepped out to hit him through long off for a boundary.

Pant swung back and pulled for another boundary after Leach missed the very next ball.

From then, the lefty cricketer simply gained momentum and began attacking the English bowlers, who were uneasy after taking a beating.

He attempted to smash Joe Root for a massive shot to get his 150 but instead edged the ball to slip, where Zak Crawley made a superb catch, and was ultimately dismissed.
